Position Available | Bronx Children’s Museum – TEACHING ARTIST

The Bronx Children’s Museum seeks a Teaching Artist to lead our Summer Dream Big Program on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays in July and August 2019. Drawing on your knowledge, experience, ability and expertise, the Teaching Artist will provide fine instruction to children in 1st through 4th grade for surrounding our theme “Building Our Bronx”, program objectives, and goals. Teaching Artists are responsible for creating and submitting a lesson plan that meets the specific programs objectives prior to the program starting. In addition, to the following requirements you will be asked to attend special events or field trips.​

The Dream Big program will be 15 sessions during July and August 2019 held on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am to 1pm starting July 8th and ending on August 7th.

The Teaching Artist selected must be able to fulfill the entire schedule for this program.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Available to work from 8:30 am to 1pm for classes taking place on July 8th, 9th, 10th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 29th, 30th, 31st and August 5th, 6th,7th

Attend an orientation session and supervise 20-­‐25 students per class with assistants.

Arrive a half-­hour before the program is scheduled to set-­up and have group meetings.

Lead students 1st through 4th grade in a mix-media, large-scale collage including drawing, painting, collage and printmaking.

Create and install final art exhibition with the children for parents and caregivers on August7th.

Submit a lesson plan correlating with the programs overarching theme and objectives.

Prepare/clean-up each class, maintain condition of equipment and supplies.

Lead discussions with children exploring the theme and integrating literacy activities and vocabulary each day.

Lead children in lesson plans, journaling, and writing to describe their experience in the program.

Conduct the museum’s assessment system, monitoring each child’s progress, and collect testimonials from children and staff before the end of the program.

Document the class with photos and submit 10-­15 good quality photos of your project.

Engage the families of the students by sharing each family’s diverse culture and traditions as it relates to your field of specialization.

Work collaboratively with the school or organizational staff to ensure successful workshops.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

BFA from an accredited college within your field of expertise. (MFA Preferred)

3+ years teaching children K-5th grade within your field of specialty

Must have experience working with families, children, and communities

Spanish Bilingual preferred
